Utah has this pretty sweet program that their wildlife resources department started up a few years back called the Utah Cutthroat Slam. The objective of the program is to raise awareness and conservation efforts for the 4 native cutthroat trout species that call Utah home. For a $20 donation, anglers can enter the challenge and complete it by catching and photographing all 4 species. Winners get bragging rights, a spot on the slam website, a certificate and a pretty dope medallion. To date, 138 people have successfully completed the slam. Because of the widespread range of the 4 species, successfully completing the challenge means traveling across a good portion of the state. I found out about the challenge shortly before moving out here for the summer and was excited to participate. In the next posts I’ll be doing a 4 part series on my pursuit of each of these species.
